The baobab tree, with its really thick trunk, and sprawling branches, has been recognized and, in some countries, “revered” for many years for its fruit. Native to Central Africa, the pods have been utilized in that region, for their medicinal benefits for many years, but only now is this amazing fruit becoming known in the rest of the world. The fruit of the Baobab pod is dry in its natural state and therefore has to be powdered in order to be utilized. It produces a wonderful flavour, sometimes described as a cross between an apple and a pear. Blended with aloe juice, the result is a most unusual, but seriously delicious, slightly tart flavor. Baobab is a good source of antioxidants, dietary fibre, minerals and vitamins, especially Vitamin C.
